In our last post about common uses of stainless steel, we talked about how high-grade stainless steel is vital in the construction of things like storage tanks, valves, pipes, and other components. What we didn’t mention was super duplex steel, a high-strength alloy that can be produced in larger sheets which minimizes welding efforts and maximizes overall structural integrity. The superior strength of super duplex steel also reduces the need for extra structural support and foundations, which helps reduce the costs of construction projects.

Off-shore oil rigs commonly utilize stainless steel materials. Crude oil is very corrosive, so modern rigs are constructed using tough and lightweight high-alloyed steel. Renewable energy technology companies involved in solar, geothermal, hydro and wind power also use stainless steel components. Stainless steel is able to withstand highly corrosive, salty sea water environments, protecting valuable components and resources from the ocean.

Ever been to your local hardware store down the street? Every hardware store specializes in carrying many different components like springs, nuts, bolts, and washers. These items are typically made of stainless steel, and you don’t need to be in a heavy industry mentioned above to use them! Whether you need a few small components to finish a DIY project or you’re looking for a specific style of fastener, stainless steel will give you durable and reliable performance.

We’ve mentioned the importance of sanitary valves and brewing beer in the past, but it’s still worth a mention because stainless steel is so crucial to maintaining hygienic operations when it comes to brewing beer. The craft and home brewing market has exploded in the past couple of decades, and creating delicious beer simply wouldn’t be possible with sanitary stainless steel components.
